Pinterest Reminds Me I’m Lacking in Life
^^See that pic up there? That’s just an example of how Pinterest reminds me I’m lacking in life. Anyone else feel that way when they log onto Pinterest? Besides the fact that I suck at beauty upkeep on a continual basis as kindly pointed out by the pic above (spray tan, manicure, perfect workout clothes) I’m constantly reminded that I’m not the perfect mother that makes homemade, organic, grass fed, non-gmo goldfish for my toddler while doing Pilates in a bra that certainly wouldn’t hold my boobs up.
I sent my mom and sister (we have an ongoing group text) a complaint similar to above this week, and my sister’s comment really made me feel better. She said, “Katie, people might think the same thing about you when they see your blog photos.” It wasn’t the sentiment that made me feel better, it was the realization that those Pinterest people probably aren’t perfect all the time.
I don’t often share much about my work/life balance, but here is a current view into what my life looks like. I work a 4/10 schedule, which means I work 10 hour days Mon-Thur with every Friday off. I typically start the day at 4:30AM (4:50 if I’m being honest) and I’m out the door by 5:10 to be at work by 6AM (I have a 45 to 50 minute commute) then I’m off work by 4:30PM and home usually by 5:30. I won’t bore you with the monotonous details of the rest of our night, but I can tell you that it’s often just George and I hanging out while Geordie has grad school classes. Then George is in bed by 8:30 or 9 (pushing it, but I have a hard time putting him to sleep when I’ve been away from him all day) and I either pour myself a glass of wine and work on the blog, or I finish whatever kitchen cleaning needs to be done (again not perfect at this either.)
The point of this isn’t to complain about my life, honestly I wouldn’t change much about my current situation (unless I was able to financially blog full time.) But the point is to be honest with you, my readers. What may seem like a well dressed put together person is most often an exhausted mom with dry shampoo in her hair for the third day in a row. Not perfect at all. And neither are these Pinterest people…Like me, they are just putting their best face forward for this weird thing we call social media. And that makes me feel better. I may never be one of those moms who has it all together, and that’s OK in my book because who really does?
And now that we’re on the subject of Pinterest, below are my weekly faves!
