Highlands NC Fall Foliage
Two weekends ago we headed up to Highlands NC for a quick one night trip. Geordie was feeling burnout due to the stresses of grad school and his work load, so I thought a trip to the mountains might help him decompress.
If you’ve ever traveled with a toddler, you know that no trip is exactly relaxing. For this particular weekend, George 100% needed his tape measure at every single second of the day or all hell would break loose. The problem with this is that George loves throwing his tape measure, but it kept getting lost in the leaves. The only time he would willingly put the tape measure down is if he could take a picture of Geordie or me with “mommies camma peease.” Crazy toddler aside, it was nice to take in the beautiful scenery and get a bit of fresh (albeit fridgid) air. Please note the red tape measure in every picture. 🙂
I thought I’d share a few favorites from the trip with you. Some were taken with my big camera, some are iPhone photos, and some were even taken by baby George. And obviously, they are not the best quality, but they are all special to me!

Hiking up Whiteside Mountain.
Note from Geordie
This particular picture can only be equated with somebody taking a picture of Bigfoot, Sasquatch, the Lochness Monster, or the Abominable Snowman. While George looks cute in the hiking backpack, he absolutely hated it. After about 100 yards of him being carried in it, he started screaming “put me down daddy!” All in all, George probably walked ~95% of the hike all by himself.
You can’t see the due to the smoke and an overexposed image, but all that white in the background is a beautiful mountaintop view.
