Lately budgeting has been at the forefront of my mind. With summer coming to a close, and many fun trips behind us I’m ready to start focusing my energy on ramping up that savings account. At a friends suggestion Geordie and I recently downloaded multiple coupon apps to save on groceries, we’ve been trying to cut back on eating out, and we’ve been negotiating some of our utility bills. So when Diana Gay contacted me to do a collaboration focused on repurposing old clothing items I already owned, I was all for it.
Just a little backstory on my relationship with Diana… I first met Diana when she did the costumes for a production of Les Mis that I was in. She was able to use a small budget and a short time period to create some impressive period costumes. Needless to say, I was so impressed that when my wedding rolled around I enlisted her to turn a simple ill fitting gown into something that was customized to my needs. She has done multiple weddings, full scale operas, and can essentially do anything sewing wide you will ever need.
The task at hand: take two pieces of clothing I already own but don’t wear and turn them into pieces of clothing that I will not only love but will consistently wear. At first finding two items seemed like a daunting task with all the clutter in my closet, but I quickly picked an old dress, and a pair of relatively new jeans to repurpose (the shorts and top seen above.) I loved the print and the bell sleeves of the dress, but as it was short it just wasn’t getting worn on a regular basis. The jeans had unfortunately turned into a pair of high waters in the wash, so they obviously weren’t getting any wear either.
Diana agreed that the dress would make an adorable top, and the jeans would turn into a cute pair of high waisted cut off shorts. I love the way both items turned out and have already gotten a significant amount of wear out of both of them!
If you’re local, I highly recommend using Diana for any of your sewing needs! You can find her contact info below!
