Oh hi! I haven’t blogged in a hot minute, in fact, it’s been about seven months to be exact. It would be awkward of me to just drop in an do a review of a restaurant when I’ve been mia, so I’ll start with a super short little life update. George is now 3 and wicked smart and vivacious, and Lily is almost 8 months old and absolutely adorable and sweet, and one horrible little sleeper lol. I am happy, busy, exhausted, and bursting with love for those babes. And tired. Did I say that already? I do intend to get back to blogging at some point, but right now my hands are pretty full with working full time and keeping up with the two adorable little munchkins.
But back to the restaurant review… about two months ago, I was invited to do a review for a new restaurant that was coming to Augusta in mid October. As a blogger (even one who’s admittedly D list and pretty much mia) from time to time you receive emails from companies offering to send you product or compensation and the likes in exchange for a blog post. Sometimes it’s downright shady companies, sometimes it’s semi-decent stuff, and other (less frequent) times it’s with a company that makes you automatically shoot back an email back stating “yes, when can we get the ball rolling!!?” This time was definitely the latter. One thing that I never have a problem divulging to people is my love of food. And the premise of Metro Diner sounded right up my alley…delicious food made from scratch daily, oh, and they serve breakfast all day! The Jacksonville, FL location has even been featured on one of my favorite Food Network shows, Diners Drive Ins and Dives.
Anyways, Geordie and I set a date to have dinner there on a random weeknight (our first date night in almost 5 months I might add.) and off we went. We decided that we (well mostly me) would have a cheat night on our diets, and just enjoy ourselves. In keeping with the cheat night, we ordered the chicken and waffles, and the diablo burger. The diablo burger is a big ole burger sandwiched between two grilled cheeses filled with a hefty dose of bacon, tomatoes, and oozy cheese. Just thinking about it gets me hungry. Geordie and I both agreed thought that our favorite of the two was the chicken and waffles. The chicken and waffles came with an entire half fried chicken, fluffy belgian waffles, and an awesome strawberry cream cheese butter spread. That was hands down the best chicken and waffles I’ve ever had, and Geordie declared the fried chicken the best he’s ever had. We were embarrassingly a part of the clean plate club that night.
I could go on and on about the food, but the truth is you should go check it out for yourself! You can find Metro Diner online here and on Facebook here.
Thanks for stopping by!
Dress: C/O PinkBlush (see giveaway details at the bottom of this post!)
Last week as mom and I were leaving my 38 week appointment she made the comment that I hadn’t done any maternity photos. To be honest, the thought of dressing up and holding my belly and being all “here’s me looking all angelic while holding my belly and looking off into the corner” doesn’t sound too appealing when you’re hugely pregnant and uncomfortable and just not really feeling it. However, I texted my mom friend/photog pal Shannon and luckily she was available to come snap some pics that weekend. I wasn’t feeling it at the time (as said), but I’m so glad now that I’ll have these photos to look back on, and to show our daughter someday!
It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but before I have this baby I thought I’d share a 39 week pregnancy update! Also, see below for a fun giveaway to PinkBlush!
HOW FAR ALONG:
39 Weeks and four days. But who’s counting right? 🙂
When I was pregnant with George I had terrible edema (swelling) from like week 23 on. It was pretty annoying and at times miserable (not to mention not the sexiest), but it was the main symptom I had to contend with. So looking back, that pregnancy seems like a cake walk.
I thought that I had escaped that this pregnancy, but this week it has been back in full force. The bad thing is, I’m such a baby about it… When I get home from work all I want to do is soak in a tub and put my feet up. Which would be fine and all, but I have a sweet little two year old who really needs mommies attention! I’ve definitely started to feel some of the mom guilt over not giving him less attention, and I know it will only get worse once the baby comes, but I also realize that a bit of that guilt is normal.
Other than that, I’ve been doing fine besides some occasional headaches and spikes in blood pressure (most likely linked to feeling bad and being moody/agitated.)
I thought the whole aversion to smells thing only happened in the first trimester, but it has been back in full force!! A few weeks ago I was on a tour of the construction site where I work, and the smells from some of the welding equipment (so I was told, I’m clueless) really sent me over the edge. I looked over at my coworker and gave him the “get me out of here!” eye. Luckily we moved on to another room and everything was fine, but it was a real internal freakout moment for me lol.
Oh, and once again, baby diapers. Lately (if I’m lucky!) I just make Geordie or my mom change them, cause again, pregnant diva.
WHAT IM WEARING:
At this point in the pregnancy I’m all about comfort. Leggings and maternity jeans (all from Target) and a few loose tops are what I’m mostly wearing lately. For maternity dresses and nicer clothes I really like the cute maternity clothes from PinkBlush. The dress I’m wearing in these photos is PinkBlush and I love that it’s so soft and that I’ll be able to wear it after I have the baby too! Also, huge plus that it’s nursing friendly!
It’s a girl!!! If you couldn’t tell by all the pink in these photos! 🙂
No specific cravings right now, but we have been eating so much junk lately! I’m actually looking forward to getting back to eating healthy/clean when the baby comes cause I just feel so gross lately. It’s kinda funny cause at around 36 weeks all the baby sites say,… “you’ll probably stop gaining weight from now until the baby arrives!” and I’m like oh great, I’ll stop gaining weight now! Needless to say, those baby sites don’t tell you that you might still be hangry and have cravings all the time. So the pounds I gained in the first two trimesters were warranted, but the last 5 pounds this last month are made up of cheetos and Cookout milkshakes. OOPS. I have big babies, what can I say??
I’ve had pretty strong Braxton Hicks contractions since about 36 weeks, but they are mostly just annoying. At my last appointment I was not dilated and the baby was still sitting up high, so I’m hoping when I go back this week I will have made some progress! However, I’m trying not to obsess too much over that stuff. I wasn’t dilated at all at my 40 week appt with George, and I ended up going into labor with him and having him the next day on his due date! Hopefully I’ll have the same luck with this baby!
Also, I have seen some increases in pelvic pain this week so I’m hoping that means she’s dropped some. Fingers crossed!
WHAT DOES GEORGE THINK ABOUT THE BABY?
It’s so cute because occasionally I’ll get a random sharp pain in my pelvis or sciatic nerve and George will say “what’s wrong mommy?” and occasionally “want me to kiss it?” It’s so sweet and endearing and I’m just hoping he won’t be scarred for life from me randomly screaming out in pain lol. A lot of people have asked what he thinks about the baby coming, and to be honest it’s hard to tell at this point. However, we told him his baby sister is bringing him a toy, so anytime we ask him about the baby he asks where his “present” is or his “garbage truck and helicopter” that he decided she is going to bring him. I know there will be a bit of an adjustment, but I also know that he’s going to be the sweetest big brother! I’m really looking forward to the day when they meet! 🙂

You’d think that with it being my second time around I’d have this pregnancy thing figured out, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. I find myself googling “is … normal during pregnancy?” on a daily basis. So it’s basically like my first time all over again, how fun! With that said, I thought I’d share some pregnancy favorites that have made things more enjoyable this go around.
This thing has been a total game changer for me this pregnancy! When pregnant you’re supposed to sleep on your side, which is a problem for this serial stomach sleeper. Before the boppy I was seriously using every pillow in the house trying to get comfortable. The boppy is ergonomically designed for a pregnant woman and has a spot for your head, belly, and for between your legs (really important to me!) I must admit, I’ve developed a dependency problem with this pillow – it must come with me everywhere! I’m happy to finally be sleeping well again.
My favorite (and only) pair of maternity leggings. These have a full panel and yet they don’t slide down so they are perfect no matter what your stage of pregnancy. I wear them lounging around the house, with loose tunics and dresses, and even to the gym (which let’s be honest, isn’t really happening these days lol!)
My skin has always been oily/sensitive, so I am no stranger to breakouts. However, when I was pregnant with George, my skin was perfectly clear for the first time in my life. I can remember being able to essentially just wash my face with coconut oil, and it would look great the next day.
This pregnancy, my skin sucks. During the first trimester, I was breaking out like a teenager, and yet I was super dry and sensitive at the same time. In high school my dermatologist recommended cetaphil for when I was using drying products like retinol. With that in mind, I switched over to the face wash, lotion, and makeup removing wipes, and my skin has been looking SO much better.
My most expensive maternity item, but it has been so worth it. I purchased this dress in my first trimester and have continually worn it to every event I’ve had since then, and weekly to work. The black is so slimming and it’s thick enough to wear during the winter.
I’m sure my must have items will change as I get further along, so I’ll try to updates as they come. In the meantime, I’d love to know any of your pregnancy favorites. Whether it’s things that made your pregnancy easier or just more enjoyable!
